I have owned Gordon Setters since 1977 and have had at least one Gordon Setter in my household since then. I bred my first litter in 1981 and to date have bred 7 litters, the latest being on the ground right now, which were all spoken for before they were born.
I average out one litter every 5 or so years. I lightly show my dogs and have been relatively successful in that I always qualify my dogs for entry into Crufts. At Crufts I have often come home with a rosette, even if it is for 5th place. I breed for temperament first because most dogs end up in pet homes and temperament is of the utmost importance in a pet dog.
Health is of prime consideration too. I am breed health rep for The Gordon Setter Club of Scotland, which I have been a member of for many years. I am a member of 3 of the 4 Clubs, only not being a member of the Gordon Setter Field Trial Society and also on the committee for the Breed Council, which meets twice a year to discuss anything to do with the breed from judges to health and anything in between.
I have owned and bred the last 6 generations of my dogs and give careful consideration to producing healthy puppies with good temperament which will go to carefully considered homes.
